Photo Manipulation and Ethics

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

A. Almost anyone can manipulate photos now because of the invention of photoshop and other photo editing programs.

B. The philosophy of newspapers like the New York Times is that no color will be altered from the original scene photographed.

C. Cropping out or removing distracting things from the photo or slightly blurring the background to focus on the subject(s).

I think that this photo was unethical because the editor darkened the photo to make it darker, but in my opinion it ruins the photograph. The Newsweek one is better because it has much more light but, on the Time Magazine one, it is hard to tell any of Simpson's facial features in the picture.

I believe that this picture is the most ethical and has not altered that much, except for the man who is handling the horse. I think that it does not harm the photo that much because he is not the subject of the photo and that is not what the photographer wants the viewer to look at.
