Nut Graf

Nut Graf

A nut graf is a part of an article or story, that justifies why it was written, or the purpose of the story. The nut graf is essentially the so what? of the story or article. It also makes the story more interesting and explains to the reader why they are reading it. The nut graf also provides a transition from the lead of the story to a connection to the rest of it.
The nut graf also tells the reader what the writer is doing or up to, answering their questions and then revealing the essential theme in the nut graf. The Wall Street Journal are apparently notorious for doing this kind of writing in some of their stories, which is why it has become popular among journalism writers and others.
