Self Portrait and Portraits Intro

Self Portrait and Portraits Intro

1. Break the Rules of Composition. The Rule of Thirds is one that can be effective to break – placing your subject either dead centre can sometimes create a powerful image – or even creative placement with your subject right on the edge of a shot can sometimes create interesting images.
2. Play With Backgrounds. The person in your portrait is the main point of interest – however sometimes when you place them into different contexts with different backgrounds you can dramatically alter the mood in a shot.
3.  Get Closer. The most common mistake made by photographers is that they are not physically close enough to their subjects. In some cases this means that the center of interest—the subject—is just a speck, too small to have any impact. Even when it is big enough to be decipherable, it usually carries little meaning. Viewers can sense when a subject is small because it was supposed to be and when it's small because the photographer was too shy to get close.

Environmental Portraits:

I like this picture because of the portrait and the exposure they were able to get with a dark room and a match. I also like that the subject is not focused on the camera but more on the match, which makes it look better.

I like this picture because there is so much to look at in the picture, and that the portrait is not have the person looking at the camera, to add the affect of an unplanned photo, and shows that he is performing an action.

Photography Self Portrait

I like the photo because it fills the frame with the subject and is a very creative way to shoot the portrait that way.

I like this photo because the subject is only on one side of the portrait and because you can look at the reflection of the sunglasses to see what she is seeing.

Casual Portrait

I like this photo because it does show someone being casual and minding their own business. I also like the lens flares in the portrait that add a different effect to the portrait.

I like this photo because of the simplicity in the portrait in the picture but also the color combination with the woman's shirt and the background of the city. I like the lens flare which show that it is focused on the subject and not the lights in the background.

For my portrait assignment I will most likely shoot portraits of my brother or a friend of mine. The location of the portrait will be in my backyard or in a street during sunset or sunrise. To make the shot successful I will need to decide certain things with lighting, action, and what to shoot of the subject.
